How it can happen
When gutters overflow, water runs down the outside wall instead of into the downpipe. Over time, walls that are regularly soaked can let moisture through, especially on older brickwork.
Signs to look for
- Damp patches on inside walls below the gutter line
- Staining or green growth on outside walls
- Water splashing back at the base of the wall

Blocked gutters are not the only cause
