A blocked channel or outlet
The most common cause. Leaves, moss and silt stop water reaching the outlet, so it spills over the side.
A blocked downpipe
If the gutter looks clear but still overflows, the blockage may be inside the downpipe.

The gutter has lost its fall
Gutters need a slight slope towards the outlet. If a section has sagged, water can pool and spill in the wrong place.
Very heavy rain
In a real downpour, even a clean gutter can briefly overflow. If it happens every time it rains, something is blocked.
What to do
A clean and wash usually solves it. We check water flow afterwards and tell you if the problem looks like the fall or a damaged section instead.
